Google is reportedly developing the “Satellite SOS” feature for Pixel smartphones, allowing emergency calls, location sharing, and Q&A. While not officially announced, testing options exist on rooted devices. Apple offers similar features, but they are currently unavailable in India (Google Pixel Phones).
Google is said to be in the process of introducing the “Satellite SOS” feature on supported Google Pixel smartphones. A recent update to “Adaptive Connectivity Services” suggests the company’s intention to include this feature.
Within the safety and emergency settings on Pixel devices, users can find the “Satellite SOS” option placed between Emergency SOS and Car Crash Detection.
Currently, tapping on this option doesn’t trigger any action, but rooted Pixel smartphones can access a preview of what the feature entails (Google Pixel Phones).
According to reports, Satellite SOS will allow users to call or text emergency services, share their location using Google Maps, and provide answers to emergency-related questions. It is noted that the feature will share users’ names and phone numbers from their Google Account, along with contact details for up to three designated “emergency contacts.”
On rooted Pixel smartphones, the Satellite SOS menu reveals a link intended to direct users to a support page containing service details and a list of countries where the feature will be accessible. Regrettably, this page is currently unavailable.
Additionally, there are options for testing the feature, labeled as “Try a demo” and “Test real mode,” but they are not operational at present (Google Pixel Phones).
While Google has not made an official announcement regarding the availability of the Satellite SOS feature, it is evident that active development is underway.
The feature is anticipated to be launched in the upcoming months, initially on Pixel smartphones, with the possibility of extending its availability to other Android devices soon (Google Pixel Phones).
Apple provides comparable features on specific iPhone models, but as of now, these services are not available in India.
